Choosing an upgrade path

Notes for upgrading from an Internet FastStart system

If your system is currently running SCO Internet FastStart release 1.0 or 1.1, you must select the Fresh installation type. You may select either the Interactive fdisk/divvy or Preserve option for setting up your hard disk. You cannot select the Upgrade installation type for SCO Internet FastStart release 1.0 or 1.1.

NOTE: Licenses from previous Internet FastStart releases will be rejected by SCO OpenServer as invalid. You must use your new SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 License.

Before reinstalling your system, read this section carefully. When you reinstall your Internet FastStart Release 1.0 or 1.1 system as an SCO OpenServer system, any specialized configuration of sendmail, ppp, and Netscape FastTrack web server is lost. However, if you follow the procedures in this section before you install your SCO OpenServer system, you can bring most of the previous configurations forward without needing to manually reconfigure the system.

The following summarizes the multi-step process for migrating from Internet FastStart to SCO OpenServer:

  1. Perform a complete backup of the system to be reinstalled and verify that the backup was successful. See ``Running unscheduled filesystem backups''.

  2. From the system to be reinstalled, save to floppy disk any sendmail, ppp, and Netscape FastTrack configuration files that you want to bring forward to the new system.

  3. Install SCO OpenServer on your system, following the instructions described in ``Installing or upgrading an SCO OpenServer system''.

  4. Use the Internet Manager to restore your basic system configuration.

  5. Restore the files you saved to floppy disk in Step 2.
For details on moving your sendmail and ppp configuration information to SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7, see: In SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7, Netscape FastTrack has been replaced by the Apache web server. If you want to configure Apache to replicate your current Netscape FastTrack configuration, you will need to do so manually. ``Saving web server configuration and data'' describes the Netscape FastTrack data that you should back up for reference. Once the SCO OpenServer system is installed, see the Apache documentation (available from the Internet Services link on the DocView home page) to configure the web server.
