Configuring kernel parameters

Autotuning

SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.6 and later releases attempt to autotune parameters that control the disk buffer cache, STREAMS, and paging to better utilize the larger hardware configurations that are increasingly common. This autotuning only affects systems with more than 64MB of memory at installation time. If you upgrade memory after installation or are running SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.5 or earlier, use idtune(ADM) with the -m option to set these parameters:

Parameter >=1GB >=256MB >=128MB >=64MB
GPGSLO 2000 1000 600 200
GPGSHI 6000 3000 1500 600
PLOWBUFS 1024 1024 1024 1024
NSTRPAGES 6000 4000 2000 1000

For systems configured with at least 48MB of RAM at installation time, SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.6 and later releases autotune kernel parameters to values that optimize database performance. If you upgrade memory after installation or are running SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.5 or earlier, use configure(ADM) to set these parameters:
