Changing cursor appearance

Root window cursor appearance

When the Desktop is not covering the entire screen, you see the Root window. If you want to change the pointer cursor appearance in the Root window, use the xsetroot(XC) command.

xsetroot takes two cursor appearance options:

-cursor cursorfile maskfile
lets you change the pointer cursor (when it is outside the Desktop) to whatever you want. Cursor files and mask files are bitmaps, and can be made with a bitmap program, such as scopaint(XC).

-cursor_name cursorname
lets you change the pointer cursor to one of the standard cursors from the cursor font
