Administering your SCO OpenServer system

To help system administration, troubleshooting, and future upgrades go more smoothly, keep a copy of the completed Installation and Upgrade Checklist with the system log, as described in the System Administration Guide.

For an overview of administering SCO OpenServer, including information on using SCOadmin, see ``Administering SCO OpenServer''.

The system administration tasks with which you should be familiar include:

• Installing and configuring other SCO OpenServer products, including SCO OpenServer Optional Services and the various development environments for SCO OpenServer. (See ``Installing and managing software components''.)

• Licensing and registering additional SCO OpenServer products. (See ``Licensing and registering SCO OpenServer products''.)

• Starting and stopping SCO OpenServer and modifying and troubleshooting the startup process. (See ``Starting and stopping the system''.)

• Configuring the Internet components on the system, including World Wide Web access, remote file transfer access, point-to-point connections with other systems, and network security. (See ``Configuring Internet Services''.)

• Customizing the Desktop and Graphical Environment sessions. (See ``Customizing startup of the Graphical Environment''.)

• Modifying the locale settings for the system. (See ``Specifying the locale''.)

• Configuring new and existing system hardware, including hard disks, host, graphics, and network adapters, and other peripherals. (See ``Basic hardware configuration''.)

• Troubleshooting problems with the system, including corrupted filesystems and system crashes. (See ``Troubleshooting system-level problems''.)

• Configuring the system to support system administration across the network using SCOadmin. (See ``Administering other systems with SCOadmin''.)
