The following utilities are available for troubleshooting NIS.

displays the contents of an NIS map.

ypmatch(NC)
|
prints the value for one or more specified keys in an
NIS map.

yppoll(NADM)
|
asks any NIS server
for information about a map that it holds internally.

ypwhich(NADM)
|
tells you which NIS server an NIS
client is currently using for NIS, or which
NIS server is master of a named map.

rpcinfo(NADM)
|
displays RPC information from a specified RPC server.
Use rpcinfo to check whether portmapper,
ypbind, and (for NIS servers) ypserv are running.
If exporting filesystems, the mountd service should be
registered.

ping(ADMN)
|
reports roundtrip time and packet loss statistics.
Use ping to ensure a network connection can be made between
hosts.
