nping(PADM)
nping --
test the network connection to a host
Syntax
nping [ -s socket ]
hostname [ count ]
nping [ -s socket ]
-a ipxadrs [ count ]
Description
nping verifies the correct operation of
IPX/SPX networks by testing the network
connection to a host. Note that nping can only
be used to test connections between SCO OpenServer hosts and
UnixWare or NetWare for UNIX hosts. It is not
possible to use nping to test the connection
between an SCO OpenServer host and a DOS system or native NetWare
server.
The options are interpreted as follows:
-s socket-
specify the IPX socket number to use. If this option
is omitted, the default IPX socket number of 2 is used.
-a ipxadrs-
specify the partial IPX address to be used in
place of the destination host name. The address is
specified as net.node, where
net is the IPX network number, and
node is the IPX node number. If
necessary, the IPX socket number may be specified
by using the -s option.
count-
specify the number of packets to send. This must be a
positive number.
nping should be used first to verify that the
IPX/SPX network is up on the local
host. It can then be used to verify that the network links
to other hosts are up.
