Integrating applications into the Desktop

Making applications user-installable

The deskconfobj tool cannot be used to install an application into a user's directory. You can install an icon object in a user's directory tree by creating an label.obj directory and copying your pixmap(s) and object script(s) into it. Your icon will appear in the label.obj directory's parent directory's window.

On the SCO OpenServer system, all user customization is stored in a special subdirectory $HOME/.xdt_dir. Your application's rules should be placed in $HOME/.xdt_dir/modules/appname.auto. The .auto suffix causes this rule to be read each time the Desktop is started; appname is the name of your application, and can be any legal filename.
